A market tour of London’s Midtown

London’s Midtown is its most animated during the festive season. Sightseers meander through the enchanting neon-lit streets, buzzing with seasonal shoppers. Take a moonlit stroll through the neighbourhood, and beneath the yuletide glitz and glamour you’ll find its treasure trove of winter markets

Many of Midtown’s finest festive markets are waiting right on Pinks Mews’ doorstep in Holborn, so we’ve curated a walking tour of our personal favourites.

Christmas Treats Bazaar, St Martin’s Courtyard

First on our shortlist is the Christmas Treats Bazaar. This melting pot of services, workshops and gift inspiration in Covent Garden lifts the curtain on seasonal street shopping in London’s Midtown. During November, St Martin’s Courtyard will house boutique and independent brands, complimentary drinks and even a festive treat wheel!

The capital is already abuzz with eager holiday shoppers, as we have all naturally come to expect. However, comparatively few of those shoppers will have the same offering as the Christmas Treats Bazaar. With a drop-off point for shopping bags and on-site gift-wrapping services, this market offers a welcome helping hand to those of us looking to take a break from the hustle and bustle.

Leicester Square Christmas Market

Our next stop takes us through the heart of London’s tourist district and into Leicester Square. Our city’s most famous square has been enjoying a festive makeover as of late, complete with twenty-five Bavarian-style wood huts.  Peer behind the rows of charming facades and you’ll be rewarded with a winter wonderland of handcrafted wooden toys and festive ornaments, mulled wine and imported savoury treats.

Returning to take centre stage is the market’s iconic velvet-draped spiegeltent – a travelling tent adorned with mirrors and stained glass. The tent is one-part entertainment venue and one-part keepsake of the roaring twenties that inspired it. Step inside for the perfect end to a cold winter evening. From showstopping cabaret and comedy to enchanting family shows there is no shortage of entertainment on offer here.

Winter Market, Southbank Centre

Saunter along the scenic route over the Golden Jubilee Bridges and just across the River Thames, and you’ll soon arrive at the Southbank Centre’s Winter Market. Right through to the new year, you’ll find merrymakers lining every corner of the riverside festival. Some will be indulging in the street food and handmade artisan gifts brought over by global traders and others will be enjoying daredevil entertainment with Circus 1903, all under glistening festive lights.

If the capital’s winter chill proves too much, then the Southbank suffers no shortage of hideaways to warm up in. Bar Under the Bridge pairs classic cocktails with an unashamedly cheese-centric menu. Nearby, the Circus Bar treats guests to spicy mulled cider and wine beside the glow of cosy firepits.
